The city of Tartarin and the Tarasque

The tradition teaches that St. Martha, from Palestine, landed at Tarascon where rampant Tarasque then, a terrible monster who lived in the Rhone. This palace, started in 1400 by Louis II of Anjou and completed by his son King René, a majestic appearance feudal. With an impressive defensive system, it is also home to the elegant interior of a princely residence.

Tarascon inspired other tales, especially the famous story of Tartarin de Tarascon, illustrious person born under the pen of Alphonse Daudet in 1872. A house, located in downtown, it is dedicated. The manufacture Charles Demery continues to maintain this tradition and radiates across the world this mode inspired by the folklore of Provence.

Each year Tarascon, during celebrations of the Tarasque, you can see scroll of processions mireillos (women with hairstyles and kept Provence and Arles) and gardians.
