Nice

The city symbol of the French Riviera

Blason NiceNice, in the department of Alpes-Maritimes, is the fifth largest city in France. Dynamic city, the metropolis of the French Riviera has all the amenities of a regional capital : two congress, the second airport in France, business districts, several shopping malls…

Located at the bottom of the Baie des Anges, perfectly sheltered by an amphitheatre of hills, Nice is nestled in a narrow mountainous basin supported the Mercantour, bounded on the west by the Var valley and east by Mount Boron. The city is bisected by two small rivers torrentueux, often dry in summer: Paillon and Magnan.

Several hills dominate Nice, the most famous being that of Cimiez with its ancient remains. Other legendary hill, the Castle, which separates the old port and the city. The various hills impede the extension of the town: it was made either to the north, following the course of Paillon, either in the plain of the west to Saint-Laurent-du-Var.

Cours SaleyaNice is also famous for its old city, the Cours Saleya home markets and restaurants, the Hotel Victoria where lived Matisse, Chagall and Matisse museums, Mamac (contemporary art), and of course the "Promenade des Anglais", from the Verdure Theatre to the airport !

Nice is the second French tourist city after Paris, which, combined with difficulties terrestrial communications long distance (because of the Alps), allows him to possess the second airport in France in terms of attendance.

The Promenade des Anglais is world famous. This broad and long walk, along the sea and continually offer on the magnificent bay views. It is bordered by white facades of the most sumptuous palaces. Until 1820, the coast, this place was difficult to access. The French population, large since the eighteenth century, took a charge of the construction of a coastal trail that is behind the current path and who gave his name.

Finally, let us not forget the cooking in Nice, rich and inventive, sometimes influenced by the proximity of Italy, which everyone knows the fritters zucchini flowers, pissaladière, the pan-bagnat, and of course the famous salad niçoise!
