Castellane - Le Roc et le VerdonWhen you arrive at Castellane, the first thing that impresses you is the Roc, from the top of its 185 metres, it dominates the city. On the same Roc, the elegant silhouette of the Chapel Notre-Dame du Roc watch on the tranquillity of the city.

The current name of Castellane is derivative of "Petra Castellana" which meant the stronghold built on the Roc to protect themselves including Saracen invasions. On the plateau formed by the top of the Roc, you can still guess the remains of ancient fortifications.

Castellane nowadays, is an elegant city of Provence with its central place where players warm bowls refine their technique in the shade of trees. Bordering the square, café terraces and restaurants allow tourists to cool off. But Castellane is also a medium mountain village, nestled between the summits, as a call to climbing or hiking.
