Aiguines

Entrance of the gorges du Verdon

AiguinesFrom far away you see the Aiguines Castle, watching sympathetically Lake St. Croix and the entry of Verdon gorges. A 820 metres above sea level, it detaches its silhouette and massive white under the blue skies of Provence.

Very old village, Aiguines was originally naturally turned to agriculture and livestock, but later it developed an original which was essential to the economic strength of the village: the shooting on wood. Thus what these balls were manufactured bowls boxwood, which is then cloutait to increase their resistance. Witness this time, the Museum of Tourneurs that we must not miss visiting!

Now Aiguines is essentially oriented tourism. In this area, the village strengths are considerable.

Installed above the lake of St. Croix, Aiguines offers an incomparable view of its turquoise waters and, behind them, on the Valensole plateau, the Mecca of the culture of lavender. But most importantly, it gives access to a road that will lead you along the Gorges du Verdon, for a walk full of emotions. It is also Aiguines that you can prepare your hiking or your climbing cliffs in the gorge.
